Spaatz, Carl (Andrews)

(28 jun. 1891, Boyertown, Pa., EE.UU.–14 jul. 1974, Washington, D.C.).

Oficial de aviación estadounidense. Fue piloto de combate durante la primera guerra mundial. En la segunda guerra mundial estuvo al mando de las Fuerzas Aéreas estratégicas de EE.UU. en Europa (1944) y dirigió el bombardeo estratégico de Alemania. En 1945, aunque se oponía personalmente al uso de bombas atómicas contra las ciudades, dirigió el bombardeo atómico de Japón bajo las órdenes del pdte. Harry Truman. En 1947 fue el primer jefe del estado mayor de la Fuerza Aérea independiente.
